Now I feel as though I need to revisit and review B1 in order to make a fair comparison.Carter Soleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01286436801953647693noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8038823840472916624.post-13599923255453618862011-04-04T23:51:53.073-04:002011-04-04T23:51:53.073-04:00This is the only module I managed to recover over ...This is the only module I managed to recover over the holidays from The Box back in the cold-blooded city they call The No, and I was really struck by the way it's put together. I know people say that B1 and B2 were designed to teach folks dungeoneering or DMing, but the easy way of dealing with factions (and clearly explaining that) is a great element of the module. And also, even though it's a Basic module for L1-3, it has deeper dungeon levels and a framework for expanding the adventure to Expert levels of play if the party and the DM want to explore more.

To me that suggests that Tom Moldvay was thinking "we need a module to help a DM bridge the B/X gap". And what I love about this approach is that he's giving you more than you're paying for. You're not paying for an Expert module, but you're getting one. This is very clever because if folks are into the game and want to keep exploring, the DM has enough background that they're not just generating a random dungeon on the fly, but they do have to get used to stocking it, explaining it, etc. Very cool.Spawn of Endrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10431848914619887998noreply@blogger.com
