I had thought of some thing more along the lines of anagrams, or maybe what the Emerson's previous band (The Nice, who I haven't listened much to) did on one of their albums, "The Thoughts of Emerlist Davjack". That's named after Keith Emerson, David O'List, Brian Davison, and Lee Jackson. I expect two bodies of water called (anagrams of) Emerson Lake, and Lake Palmer.Spawn of Endrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10431848914619887998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8038823840472916624.post-78545425137486556502011-01-15T20:15:33.544-05:002011-01-15T20:15:33.544-05:00So, are you going to name this Enchanted Lands of ...So, are you going to name this Enchanted Lands of Phantasy?Talysmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02162328521343832412noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8038823840472916624.post-17970664325474776002011-01-15T05:23:20.770-05:002011-01-15T05:23:20.770-05:00Yes, I love Rush -- maybe I will post about them i...Yes, I love Rush -- maybe I will post about them in the not-too-distant future. The same friend who introduced me to Rush was also one of the first people I ever played D&D with . . . in general, RPG gaming and Prog Rock seem to have some cross-fandom going on.Carter Soleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01286436801953647693noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8038823840472916624.post-90012276136482610452011-01-14T20:32:20.224-05:002011-01-14T20:32:20.224-05:00Very cool Talysman, thanks for your take on Hillbi...Very cool Talysman, thanks for your take on Hillbillies! Great food for thought about imagining sub-groups of humanoids. Hmm, I'll post about this, I guess.

As for Rush... I've had people recommend them before when I tell them I like prog rock, but I've never quite got them. I did finally hear a song that I thought was pretty decent.Talysmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02162328521343832412noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8038823840472916624.post-22364701476594089562011-01-14T15:30:19.189-05:002011-01-14T15:30:19.189-05:00@Mike: Now that you mention it I guess ELP did lea...@Mike: Now that you mention it I guess ELP did lead me in the direction of King Crimson, Yes, and Van Der Graaf Generator. Do you mean Tarkus the whole album or Tarkus the song? There are some fast-forward worthy tracks on the album, for sure (not to get ahead of myself). And I plan only to go up to BSS, I never could listen to the "Works" era stuff, though as you say Pirates would be a good one to work from.

@Carter: Thanks for the suggestions on hillbillies. I'll have to look at them again, but neandertals and hill giants sound like good choices! Or maybe both!

@Andrew: I'm sorry to say I never have been a Rush fan, but you might convince Carter to take them on. How can I have listened to all this ELP and still turn my nose up at Rush? Seems absurd, I know. Basically, I'm a drummer, and I hate Neil Peart's personality and I hate his drumming. But I don't hate people that like Rush (or play 4e with Fortune Cards or tell stories instead of killing orcs)! And I especially don't hate Rush fans that comment on a post I wrote! Thanks!Spawn of Endrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10431848914619887998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8038823840472916624.post-6691889315424405652011-01-14T14:11:46.848-05:002011-01-14T14:11:46.848-05:00Rush! Or at least might serve as a starting-point for statting them up.

Or then again, is a barbarian -- wild, untamed, strong, from the country -- the D&D equivalent of a hillbilly?

Or a hill giant?

Knife-Edge City sounds BADASS, and long live the Celtoids!Carter Soleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01286436801953647693noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8038823840472916624.post-8365681349256181042011-01-14T10:08:02.153-05:002011-01-14T10:08:02.153-05:00I'm probably way to easy on ELP since they wer...I'm probably way to easy on ELP since they were my stepping stone to some much better prog rock like King Crimson, & I have a much higher opinion of Tarkus than anyone I've ever met or whose opinions I've read (but I still fast-forward through several parts).
So I'm looking forward to this series (you should feel free to skip Love Beach, though). Even the uber-pretentious "Masterworks" compilation has some decent RPG ore (Pirates, for example).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
