With my public FLBS Labyrinth Lord game
getting started soon, it strikes me that I may need to invest in a few more dice than I currently own. I
recently revealed how many dice I possess, and it is not really a giant collection:
What I have now is enough for myself and a few players, but maybe not quite enough to go around if I get a large number of dice-less neophytes arriving at my gaming table later this month.
When it comes to new die purchasing, I immediately think of
Chessex Dice. Look, for example, at
these:
Or
these:
Or perhaps it is finally
GameScience time. I have read the posts about their quality and accuracy, and I am intrigued by some of the "oddball" selections like the d7 and the d5. Yet for my present purposes -- bulking out the collection for general, public use -- maybe Chessex is the way to go?
Any comments?
P.S. Note to self: I should also look up where the local game / hobby shop is in the Rochester, NY area, so maybe I can buy these dice from a FLGS.
Boldo's Armory is on Monroe Ave. Take 490 to Monroe/31 and take a right and it's pretty much right there on your right. It's a little hard to find and it's not quite a F LGS, but it's not too corporate either.
ReplyDeleteMillennium is in Henrietta, on West Henrietta Road in a plaza just south of the railroad bridge.
I think Crazy Egor's is still in business in Hamlin.
Doesn't Lift Bridge sell dice and RPG stuff anymore?
I would have recommended Boldo's too, but just because he's a friend of mine. He also makes armour.
ReplyDeleteYah, I've been pretty much Chessex-ing it, aside from a set of Cthulhu dice from Q-Workshop, which are really cool. Seems like getting a set or two of really cool-looking dice on the table might be enough to get players into the dice fetish and they'll want their own.
ReplyDelete@Cid & Jagatai: THANKS for the local leads, I will check those out. Lift Bridge sells some 4e and Pathfinder books, but no minis or dice.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the generic gaming dice, but I really do like Chessex dice. I'm not a fan of Q-Workshop, as they feel a bit too light to me, and I've only ever bought one precision die.
ReplyDeleteLooking through the Chessex catalog I note the Pound-o-Dice, which is ~100 assorted dice for ~$25. Maybe a cheap alternative?
ReplyDelete@Kelvin: I agree about the lightness of the Q-Workshop dice, but they LOOK really cool.
ReplyDelete@Spawn: I didn't notice that on my first pass through, thanks for mentioning it! That actually sounds ideal, not to mention FUN -- and here's the link for anybody else interested in the wondrous Pound-o-Dice offer:

@Carter No prob. And that's disappointing to hear -- Lift Bridge used to be a pretty solid source for RPG stuff. Bought a few books there when I was living in Bport.
ReplyDeleteCrazy Egor's was where we always went as kids. It might be a bit out of the way though. I would love to see that place again.
